Now I’m a kangamumma convert

img_3183

As much as I would have liked to be, being a babywearing mum was not my thing when I had my first baby. I kind of wished I could prance around barefoot, bub attached to me, without a care. Alas, there was no prancing. The pram was too easy to get her to sleep and the carrier I had was not comfortable to wear. It was all too hard. Flash forward to bub number two and I’m converted. Finn, my little joey, loves being close to me in his ‘pouch’ – and this kangamumma is loving every minute of it.

The maternity bra your boobs need right now

Breastfeeding is not always easy. For some it never is. From day dot, when your baby is a hungry, sleepy newborn, you struggle with hot and heavy boobs, a baby that won’t latch properly, far too many feeds in the darkest hours of the night and ugly bras with fiddly clasps. Some of these problems are inevitable, but you can do something about your bra.

Road trips, beach house stays, camping sites, cruise ships or long-haul flights to far-off destinations – no matter where you end up on holidays there’s some amazingly cool/cute/helpful/necessary items for kids that no jetsetting family should be without.

Packing the car for a little escape down the coast this summer reminded me that packing for the family is painful. I’ve learnt some lessons along the way so here I’ll make the task of what to bring along for the kids a lot easier for you next time you travel.

Where to shop online for the kids this Christmas

img_6984

I’ve just come back from a major shopping mall. It’s only November and I’m already in a tinsel-induced tizz. It was utter madness. The crazed clamber for a parking spot and the queue to buy or visit Santa has begun. Already. Did I mention it’s November?

So with that in mind, and to help spread the Christmas cheer to some of my fave small business owners by encouraging you to shop small and shop local, I’ve compiled a handy little guide to the BESTEST places to shop online this Chrissy. I’ll be purchasing a lot of my gifts this festive season from these stores. In the past I’ve bought some of our most treasured trinkets, outfits and shoes from these stores and every one of them rocks.

It’s how we roll. The phil&teds voyager road test

Baby number two comes along and while most things can be passed down from an older sibling, there’s a dilemma if you have a single pram and your toddler still enjoys the ride. This was exactly the problem I had when Finn arrived because Millie was still very happy to sit back and be pushed around town in our pram.

It was something I grappled with in the months before my son arrived. Do I buy a new, bigger pram or try my luck with a toddler on the loose? It was so hard to decide that I didn’t end up buying anything – but immediately regretted it. Anything beyond a quick stroll to the local shops just became too hard. I just couldn’t manage to keep my hands on the pram and feel comfortable that I had a good grip on my daughter’s hand as well.

Gifts for mum & bub all wrapped up

Having a baby is a big deal. Huge. And while it’s not about the gifts you can give a new mum and her precious bundle, it certainly is important to get it right if you do go to the trouble of finding something special.

I’ve always tried to look for quality pressies and go by the motto that I only buy things for others that I would want for myself. So when some parcels arrived for Finn and I, I know they would be appreciated by the person I choose to spoil because I absolutely loved them.

Snuggle Pods for my cuddlepies

img_0592

I have a three-year-old and a baby. My hands are always full. There’s really no way out of that when you have a bubba unless they are content to have a big snooze in their cot during the day. And mine doesn’t.

When our Chibebe Snuggle Pod delivery arrived, I couldn’t open it to try it out quick enough. After filling with beans – into a kid-proof inner bag – we were quite literally ready to rock and roll.
