Local Label Love: Little Wild Things T

It’s a new Melbourne fashion brand for kids with designer prints and styles mixing up a wardrobe basic. But Little Wild Things T is anything but simple.

Label: Little Wild Things T

Where are you based? Hawthorn, Melbourne, Australia

What’s your background? Jacqui, a mother of three (4yo boy and almost 2yo twin girls) worked for 8 years as a senior buyer and designer for Myer’s Miss Shop then for Forever New. Charlotte – who has being a mum on her ‘to do list’ but for now is an unreal aunty – started her career working for Burberry in London and then became a senior buyer for Sportsgirl for over seven years. We are not just friends but also sister-in-laws, we live next door to each and both have our fashion backgrounds so having a label together happened quite naturally.

Describe the Little Wild Things T style: Little Wild Things T style is a mix of cool and cute on-trend designs that our little wild things have inspired. We wanted to make sure our designs are unique to our brand and of course our amazingly soft organic bamboo cotton fabric is a real winner for the kids. We want our LWT to set trends in the playground and since they are limited-edition prints they will be one of very few to wear each design making it even more special.

Tell us about the print design process: We design our prints in house which we love doing! Jacqui is a wiz kid at Photoshop and all things creative on the computer and Charlotte brings her design eye. Our prints are all hand printed in Bali, Indonesia. We have a great factory who we work with very closely. We are always wanting to make sure our prints are extra soft matching our bamboo cotton.

Why choose organic bamboo? We both had bought organic bamboo cotton shirts before and loved how soft they were and ethically made. So it was a easy decision for us to head down this path with organic bamboo cotton. We pay for it and don’t pass it on to the customer as we believe its the right fabric for us and for our little wild things. We have had great reaction from customers, both mothers and kids, saying how they want to wear it not just during the day but also at night to bed. Watch out, sleepwear might be coming next!

How often will you release a new range? Spring/summer was our first range – we released two deliveries for prints, the first had 8 prints and the second drop had 4 prints. For winter we introduced long sleeves in four prints.

How do you like to see the tees worn? The T-shirts are really versatile. A T-shirt can be worn so many ways and we love seeing how our customers put the outfits together. Instagram is great for this as we get tagged in our customer pics, which we love. Check them out at @littlewildthingst, it’s cute seeing the T-shirt look with the full skirt and sneakers but equally as cute with tights or jeans. For the boys it’s jeans, shorts, trackies – it all works to us!

What’s next in the pipeline for Little Wild Things T? We have our winter long sleeve range just released – we’ve taken our designs to the next level which is exciting, you’ll really notice a difference. Of course we have to now start thinking about the second winter drop and summer!
